A benchmark should allow another practitioner to understand the database, search date, filters, screening steps and final inclusion decisions.

Core checks
- Search universe, geography, industry codes and independence criteria.
- Quantitative filters and their relationship to the tested activity.
- Manual accept and reject reasons for every reviewed company.
- PLI calculation, loss treatment and multi-year period.
- Working-capital or other comparability adjustments.

Handover
Retain the search output, decision log, calculations and reviewer comments together. The range alone is not a sufficient audit trail.
